In my opinion, Arrested Development is one of the greatest television shows ever created. It truly was one of the first television series to break down comedic barriers and experiment with a shock factor style of comedy that led the foundation for many of the popular comedies of today. Unfortunately I feel the show was a little ahead of its time, ultimately causing it to be canceled after only three seasons. Today it has gained such an enormous cult following that Netflix has decided to answer our wishes and bring the eccentric family back to the TV screen by striking a deal with the creators for more episodes. But until then, I have found a few comedies on Netflix Instant that might not be exactly on Arrested Developments level, but definitely are predecessors and have the same comedic vibe.
For example my favorite on the list is
RUNNING WILDE
Running Wild really feels like it was made to strongly attract some of the members of Arrested Developments cult following. The whole show has the rich eccentric feeling that you felt while watching AD and the main character is basically Will Arnett playing his old character on AD. There are a lot of similar themes including ignorant people with loads of money as well as plots that show the “seemingly normal people” aren’t as perfect as they seem.
THE INCREASINGLY POOR DECISIONS OF TODD MARGARAT
The increasingly poor decisions of Todd Margarat another seemingly spinoff of Arrested Development that involves a lot of the same characters and themes. It basically surrounds a character that starts out creating small lies which eventually turn into bigger lies which put him in crazy off the wall situations and so on. It has some really well written episodes that cause the same unexpected punch lines that AD was known for.
BETTER OFF TED
Better off Ted is another quirky comedy series that centers on a normal man named Ted who is surrounded by seemingly crazy over dramatized characters. After a few episodes you will probably be hooked on this one.
These are three shows I feel most resemble Ads eccentric style of comedy. If anybody has any other shows that passed under my radar, Please do share.
